Session 4:: Limited Slip Differential
Welcome back one and all to another exciting session at Kami University. Today’s session is about L.S.D. – We are not talking about the good stuff. ^_^ Limited Slip Differential is a term that travels around the tuner world constantly. But many of you like myself are not sure what LSD really is.
Definition: A device that helps prevent the drive wheels from skidding or losing traction by diverting power from the slipping wheel to the opposite wheel on the same axle.
The differential has three jobs:
- To aim the engine power at the wheels
- To act as the final gear reduction in the vehicle, slowing the rotational speed of the transmission one final time before it hits the wheels
- To transmit the power to the wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds (This is the one that earned the differential its name.)
Watch this amazing Video Billy shared with me. It was made in the 60′s but it is the best explanation video I have ever watched. Enjoy
I hope you enjoyed the movie.
p.s. We hope you take this small segment of education and use it for you future tuner use. Thanks Kami Fans.
